Before knowing about Madhya Pradesh, you must be aware of the fact that it is the oldest part of the India also called as Gondwana – which means the home of the Gonds. It is close to Bhopal at Bhimbetka. Madhya Pradesh is destination for some of the amazing paintings of Paleolithic times. This is also the oldest place of habitat to the human beings. Even the research done by the great scholars indicate that the history of Madhya Pradesh dates back to Stone Age.

The whole region of the Madhya Pradesh came under the domain of the Gupta kingdom and Harshavardhana’s empire also formed subsequently. After the Guptas kingdom declined entire province broke down into small regions with different rulers all of them contending to rule over the other and emerged as a dominant leader. Some of the dynasties which rose at this era include Chandelas, Pratihara, and Rajput dynasties.

The rulers of Madhya Pradesh lived and died by a difficult code of gallantry, they wasted away all the rare resources available in there expensive royal life style and they were unsuccessful to keep a full stop for expanding Muslim power. The Moghuls subdued all these rulers. One more popular dynasty which left its image on the Madhya Pradesh is the Marathas. They had a good relationship with the Moghals and finally the British are the one who left there solid impression not only on the people of Madhya Pradesh but also on the people of India.

During the reunion of Indian states on 26th January 1950, the Madhya Pradesh became the largest state with the total area of around 4,43,406 sq.kms. But in November 2000 the Madhya Pradesh was divided to form chhattisgarh with the area of around 71, 35,224 sq kms.
